Today we stopped at the lookout above Whale Point just in time to see an enormous pod of Risso’s dolphins going past offshore. I estimated there were 150-200 individuals. Risso’s can be identified by their relatively large size, calm behavior and prevalence of white, scar-like markings on their bodies. The water was very clear and you could see the animals even when they were under the surface. Occasionally one would leap out of the water, taking advantage of a passing ocean swell.
