Capturing Mountain Lions on film

dolan-lion_small.jpgOver the past year we have set up some motion cameras along a well established wildlife trail on the reserve and captured some great video of mountain lions. Kennan Ward has been working with us on capturing truly wild images and video of lions in an attempt to gain natural history information and to produce artistic and educational material. Thank you to Kennan for purchasing the cameras and helping us with the project.

This link takes you to an edited, post-processed look at some of the video we have captured so far. Please do not distribute out of context. If you would like more information about this footage, please contact me at Big Creek Reserve.

You will need Quicktime to view the video.

Condors at Big Creek

I saw two California condors flying over the canyon today. I suspect they were coming from the feeding site that the Ventana Wildlife Society is using to provide clean, supplementary food as part of their condor recovery program. These may be the parents of a chick that is growing up not too far from Big Creek.

Feeding the condors provides a source of lead-free food and is an attempt to keep them away from human habitations such as the town of Big Sur. There is a motion camera next to one of the feeding sites. You can see pictures of condors and read the latest news about them on our condor news page.
