Earliest sighting of Ceonothus moth on record

Tonight a ceonothus moth showed up at the door to the Whale Point Research Cabin. This is the earliest sighting of this species so far at Big Creek. The two past records were February 20, 2008 and February 22nd in a previous year (I will have to check with Jerry Powell on the year).

This winter has been very warm with many sunny days in the high 60’s the past few weeks. Blue butterflies have been seen flying, as well as Pieris napi and Polygona satyrus this past week
